In this hands-on workshop, we will learn about the history of photography, traditional and non-traditional photographic processes, and the chemistry and physics of photoactive materials used in art, photography, and biological research. We will mix chemicals and make our own photo paper, then use sunlight to create striking blue cyanotype prints from leaves and flowers, objects, drawings that we make, and photo negatives. Along the way, we will discover how chemistry, light, and timing can turn simple experiments into beautiful experimental photographic art. Bring a white T-shirt or shorts if you would like to print images on them.
